First Time Visitor?

We know that visiting a new church for the first time can be intimidating and maybe a bit uncomfortable. Here are some things we thought might be helpful to know before coming!

We are an Open and Affirming Congregation.

In 1995 our Church joined the Open and Affirming Congregation. “Open and Affirming” (ONA) is a movement of more than 1,800 churches and other ministries in the United Church of Christ that welcome lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer (LGBTQ+) members. More than 350,000 members of the UCC belong to ONA churches—and our movement is growing rapidly. Our church was the 141st church in the denomination to adopt the Open and Affirming covenant.

After a time of study, dialogue and prayer, churches adopt an Open and Affirming “covenant” committing their members to welcome LGBTQ+ seekers, support their relationships, and advocate for their basic rights. All sacraments and rites of an ONA congregation are available to LGBTQ+ people, including baptism, confirmation, communion, and marriage. ONA churches take seriously the Bible’s admonition to “accept one another, just as Christ accepted you, in order to bring praise to God.” (Romans 15:7, NIV)

At UCCC we have a minister, members of leadership and congregants who are members of the LGBTQ community. Many of our church members do not identify as LGBTQ but strive to make sure that you always feel extravagantly welcomed!

Our Church has an open communion.

You don’t need to be a member of our church, or any other church to take communion. You don’t need to tithe or give an offering. We offer communion for anyone who strives to have a closer relationship with god. We offer communion by intinction, where we dip bread (or a non-gluten alternative) into wine (or non-alcoholic grape juice). We also have pre packaged communion if you prefer to stay seated. Communion is optional and everyone is welcome.

We are one of the oldest churches in Eureka (165 years and counting)!

Our church is celebrating it’s 165th anniversary on Sunday, November 3rd, 2024. You’re welcome to attend. We’re be celebrating our church’s history and future with information, displays and good food after the 10:30 a.m. Sunday worship service.

There are a lot of reasons people choose to come to United Congregational Christian Church.

After Sunday worship we have a coffee hour in our Social Hall.

Attendees are always invited to join us for coffee and treats after the worship service. Usually someone brings some sweet treats, sometimes we have fruit platters and every once in a while we even do a potato bar. Usually if you are new, someone will invite you to join us for coffee in the social hall.
