Ministries

We value the presence of children in our midst and provide a special Children’s Time  for them near the beginning of each service.  On the first Sunday of the each month, this takes the form of a puppet show! The focus is always  a message of inclusion, love and kindness designed just for them.

Following Children’s Time, there are groups for kids of all ages.

Younger children who get restless may play in our “canopy” area where caregivers can still hear the scripture and sermon.

Kids 3-5 have a “Little Lights” program focused on the ways we experience God’s love in our daily lives. Kids in 1st-5th grades go to ARK where they are currently using “A Joyful Path” curriculum published by Progressive Christianity.

6th – 8th graders participate in X-PLORE for their own age appropriate learning opportunities.

“Let the little children come to me, and do not stop them, for it is to such as these that the kingdom of God belongs.” Luke 18: 16

We offer special activities for children throughout the year:

  • Hanging the Greens
  • Christmas Pageant
  • Easter Egg Hunt
  • Liturgical Dance
  • Camp Opportunities
  • Singing in Worship

Summer Camp is an opportunity our congregation subsidizes so that upper elementary, middle school and high school kids can grow in faith while having fun in a beautiful outdoor setting. Middle school kids participate in year-round events for service, fun and community building, as well as fundraising in order to make camp available to all.

Fellowship

Each week we gather together after worship to celebrate the company of our guests with warm conversations and hot coffee or tea. Snacks are provided during this time, every Sunday from 11:30 am – 12:30 pm.

This ministry is an important cornerstone of the larger outreach of the church, aiming to unite individuals in friendship and mutual support. In the spirit of  Christian love, we take time to get to know our brothers and sisters in Christ. We are happy to share this diverse ministry with newcomers of all backgrounds.

Interfaith Zen Meditation

Interfaith Zen was developed by a Christian pastor who is also a Zen master. Rev. David Parks-Ramage, in conjunction with John Tarant of the Pacific Zen Institute, originated this style of meditation, using both parables & sayings of Jesus and stories & koans from the Zen tradition. Our group meets on Mondays at 10:45 am in the Narthex, facilitated by Sandi Little who has been trained by David. Beginners and seasoned practitioners are always welcome!

Choir

Our very talented pianist and choir director, Larry Pitts, welcomes new singers at any time.  The choir rehearses on Thursdays at 7:00 pm and provides an introit and anthem during Sunday morning worship each week. If you like to sing with friendly and fun people, join us any Thursday or speak to Larry after worship any Sunday.

Bible Study

Bible study is offered periodically on Thursday evenings at 5:30 pm, and occasionally at other times. We have lively discussions and never assume there is only one right way to understand a biblical passage. We use insights from contemporary scholars and prayerful discernment  as we reflect on scripture’s meaning for our lives.
